NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — It doesn’t take a lot to help people in the era of coronavirus.
Drew and Heather Paglia, of Monmouth County, wanted to help when they saw how the country was impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
They didn’t know what they could do, though, as they didn’t have much money.
The two teens thought that they could do a lot from just a little, just $5 in fact.
“We are helping people by raising $5 at a time in order to help those who are currently in need,” Drew explains.
They started a GoFundMe campaign, which eventually evolved into their own website, 5Help.org.
They encourage people to donate $5 to the cause and then pass the challenge on to five other people.
“We would love for kids to donate $5 and share with five friends, or even better, they could join our 5Help team,” Heather says.
The money raised goes to helping those on the frontlines of the coronavirus fight, small businesses and senior citizens.
“With almost 900 donors, we’ve raised over $26,000,” Drew said.
Emergency crews, such as the New Jersey EMS Task Force, also volunteers with the ground and have been getting meals from local restaurants as part of the cause.
“This makes us feel great, especially when we see that we have helped so many frontline heroes and small businesses,” Drew says.
